Key Learning Areas

The school’s curriculum requirements are set by the NSW Board of Studies and the NSW Department of Education and Training. There are six Key Learning Areas (KLA’s). They are:

English

This KLA includes listening, talking, reading and writing. Students are encouraged to develop their spoken and written English skills for a range of purposes.

Mathematics

Students analyse, count and sort numbers and solve problems in the areas of space, measurement, number and working mathematically.

Science and Technology

In this KLA students develop an understanding of their environment; both

man-made and natural. They do this through investigation, designing and making and using technology.

Human Society and its Environment

Students are encouraged to study relationships between people and cultures, with a special focus on civics and citizenship.

Creative and Practical Arts

Students participate in the art forms of dance, drama, music and visual arts through creating and making their own work.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

This KLA helps students develop self-esteem, social responsibility, personal fitness and the ability to make informed decisions about health and lifestyle. Programs of Child Protection, Life Education, Social Skills, Road Safety and Awareness and Drug Education form part of this KLA.
